FAQs

Where can I get a circumcision done in Melbourne?

Circumcision Vasectomy Australia offers, safe, professional circumcision services across four convenient Melbourne locations. Our clinics are located in Hoppers Crossing, Dandenong, East Melbourne and Craigieburn. In addition to this, we also work out of Wyndham Private Hospital for all circumcision surgeries completed under general anaesthesia. Whether you live in the western, eastern, southern, or northern suburbs of Melbourne there is a clinic near you.

At what age can a baby or child be circumcised in Melbourne?

The best age to have your baby circumcision is at 2 weeks of age. Essentially the earlier the better because your child is less alert. We avoid completing a circumcision before the age of 2 weeks because we inject a nerve block to ensure your baby does not feel pain. We allow for any medical problems to present in the first 2 weeks before we inject a nerve block.

Newborns sometimes sleep during the circumcision. For older boys we give them screen time to distract them during the circumcision. The circumcision takes less than 10 minutes.

What is male circumcision?

Male circumcision is the removal of excess skin that covers the head of the penis. It is estimated that three billion males are circumcised globally. Male circumcision is performed for three main reasons: medical, religious and as a preventative health measure.

Is circumcision painful? What anaesthetic is used?

Circumcision is not painful when completed using a nerve block. Infants only require one dose of paracetamol for post operative discomfort. Adult’s may need stronger pain killers for a few days.

At Circumcision Vasectomy Australia we use a nerve block to ensure there is no pain during a circumcision. Our adult patient’s drive themselves to and from our clinics.

For boys or men who are afraid or not suitable for a nerve block we complete the circumcision under general anaesthesia with our anaesthetist specialist.

How long does a circumcision procedure take in Melbourne?

This depends on the type of circumcision. You can return to work or school as early as three days after the procedure. If you work from home on a computer and have the circumcision done under local anaesthetic, you can even resume work on the same day.
