How Do I Look After Myself Post Frenulectomy or Frenuloplasty?

  • If you have a dressing, you can remove this in 24 hours. It is best to remove the dressing in the shower.
  • You may shower in 48 hours.
  • Always keep the surgical sight clean.
  • Not all men have stitches. If you have stitches this is expected to fall off within 4 weeks.
  • Do not lift anything heavy for 1 week.
  • Do not have sex for 4 weeks.
  • Bleeding is rare. If there is a blood stain on your dressing this is ok. If your dressing is wet with blood please contact us.
  • Signs of infection are:
    • swelling of the scrotum or the penis with redness around the penis
    • fever
    • lethargy
    • Decreased appetite

Yes, this is normal. This is from the penile injections.

I have yellow forming is this normal?

This is normal. It is healing skin. Please send a photo to review.

How long do I use the pain killers?

Use Paracetamol and Ibuprofen for pain relief every 4 hours when required. You should only require pain killers for a few days.

How long must I refrain from sexual activity?

No sex or masturbation for 4 weeks. If you are at higher risk of acquiring HIV (this includes men who have sex with men), you must wear a condemn for 6 months post circumcision. The penis has a high density of HIV receptors.

When do I expect to see the final result?

Complete cosmetic healing occurs at 4 weeks. The younger the male the quicker the healing.

When can I return to work?

If you work in the office, you may return in 1 day.

If you are physically active at work (e.g. tradie), you may resume work in 4 days.

When can I resume sport?

You can resume sport in 2 weeks.

You may resume swimming at a swimming pool when the wound closes.
