Gomco Circumcision - Aftercare

How Do I Take Care Of My Baby Post Gomco Circumcision?

  1. 48 hours after the circumcision, wash the baby in a tub of water. Gently wash the dressing off the penis. There are two dressings on the penis. The top layer can come off. It does not matter if the 2nd dressing or parts of it does not wash off immediately, the material is absorbable.
  2. After you wash the baby please apply Vaseline to the front of the nappy. This minimises the penis from sticking to the nappy. Do this every nappy change for 4 days.
  3. Always change the nappy when dirty and clean the baby.
  4. The penis will look swollen for several days. This is normal. Complete healing occurs within 2-3 weeks.
  5. Your baby may develop white or yellow spots around the penis. This is normal circumcision healing. If he is not himself or appears unwell at this stage please message us with a photo of the penis.
  6. From day 10 to week 3 moisturise the penis with Dermeeze ointment or equivalent twice per day.
  7. Bleeding is rare. If there is a blood stain on the nappy the size of a 50 cent coin contact us. Occasional small stains of blood on the nappy are common in the first 24 hours.
  8. Signs of infection are:
    1. swelling of the scrotum or the penis with redness around the penis
    2. fever
    3. lethargy
  9. If concerned about any signs of infection, message us with a photo of the penis.

If you have any clinical concerns at any point of your aftercare journey please contact us.
